Conoscenza della storia del Vicino Oriente antico dalla prima urbanizzazione e dalla nascita della scrittura (3500-3200 a.C.) fino all'età seleucide (II sec. a.C.).

Le conoscenze acquisite saranno verificate attraverso un colloquio orale con domande, che potrà avvalersi anche di mappe, fonti scritte in traduzione e immagini discusse durante il corso. La preparazione sarà considerata adeguata (con votazione espressa in trentesimi), se verrà dimostrata padronanza della materia, capacità di esposizione e familiarità con la terminologia appropriata.
Knowledge and skills acquired during the class will be verified during an oral exam; maps, ancient sources in translation and images will be used as well. The preparation will be regarded as positive if the student will be able to appropriately present the topic and will show confidence with it and with the specific terminology.

- La media età del Bronzo (2000-1500 a.C.): lo Stato e i commerci paleo-assiri; l'età di Mari e Ḫammurabi di Babilonia
- La tarda età del Bronzo (1500-1200 a.C.): i rapporti internazionali; i regni di Mittani e di Ḫatti; i regni medio-assiro e medio-babilonese
- L'Età del Ferro (1200-200 a.C.): il Levante; l'impero neo assiro; l'impero neo-babilonese; le età achemenide, ellenistica e seleucide

- the early Bronze age (3500-2000 BC): first and second urbanisation; birth of writing; Mesopotamia during the protodynastic period; Akkad empire; Ur III dynasty
